At Hemingford Grey Primary School, our geography curriculum follows the National Curriculum and focuses on 4 key concepts:

We provide children with an array of enriching opportunities, including many opportunities to learn outdoors including weekly Forest School sessions for our youngest children. Our children experience a wide range of school trips, including our residential trip to Grafham and several local area visits to develop the children’s awareness of their locality. In lessons, children develop their geographical enquiry skills though exploring physical environments, human interactions and how the two areas intertwine with each other.
Each Geography session will begin with some retrieval practise which is phase specific and has a focus on locational knowledge. Exploration and application of skills taught within the classroom happens within learning zones where children are expected to conduct their own research and, through enquiry led learning are encouraged to ask and answer questions. Geography, where possible, is taught through a theme-based approach with the Geographical content being taught through themes where possible.
