School Meals at Hemingford Grey
Our meals are provided on site by Hertfordshire Catering Ltd (HCL) and parents book and pay for them in advance using the SchoolGrid booking system.
We have partnered with a catering company called Hertfordshire Catering Ltd (HCL), who provide all of our school meals. They provide healthy and varied meal choices for the children to keep them fuelled through the day.
We use a system where the children can pre-order their main course at home in advance using the SchoolGrid booking system. This gives them the chance to discuss the menu with their family to help them choose. There is a 3-week rolling menu with 4 options available every day.
- A hot cooked meal, meat based
- A hot cooked meal, plant based
- The baked potato option
- The cold option (this may include rolls, wraps or sandwiches, salad sticks, fresh fruit, and pudding).
When the children go to the hall for lunch, they touch their name on a touch screen which then displays their meal choice to them (and the kitchen team) and dietary needs (if any) will be displayed. This system helps to reduce food waste, speed up the lunch service and also help ensure that children receive their preferred choice of meal.
Children bringing in a packed lunch from home will go to lunch with their peers.
The cost of a school lunch is currently £2.70 (Pre-school meals are £2.53).

Don’t forget… All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a Universal Infant Free School Meal – this means that there is no charge to you as parents and we would really encourage the children to have the school meal.
